Virtual Wine Tasting Process
For those of you new to the tastings, we open two bottles together– available for purchase at Windham Wines– and talk with the winemaker or winery owner about terroir, grapes, farming practices and wine.
Come into the shop, buy the wines, leave us your email so that we can send the Zoom link. For the tasting, have your wines ready, prepare some snacks, and relax into the evening with some delicious conversation.
Email us your email address so that we can send you the link to participate.
Barbera and Nebbiolo from Piedmont, of course, but Pinot Noir?. . . yes, from Gian Luca Colombo, a young, driven, thoughtful winemaker who farms just over 5 hectares, organically and with biodynamic practices. Gian Luca may be the most intense winemaker who has led a tasting at Windham Wines. That intensity translates into the bottle as he produces just 1700 cases across the 5 wines he makes. Join us for a trip to the Langhe, led by Gian Luca.
The brothers Inaki, Xabier and Mikel Sanz have propelled Vina Zorzal to new heights. They have refocused the family winery to producing varietal wines from old, bush-trained vines farmed organically in rocky clay and limestone soils as seen in the picture to the right. Xabi Sanz will be our guide as we taste their Garnacha […]
Bàrbara Mesquida Mora will kick-off our annual celebration of women winemakers for Women's History Month. Bàrbara has been a champion of organic and biodynamic farming for the 20 years that she has been working in the vineyard. We will taste together her Sincronia Blanc, a blend of prensal blanc, chardonnay, and giró and the Sincronia […]
The second act of our celebration of women in the industry features women at every level from winery owners--Annamarie and Clara Sala, to importer--Mary Taylor, to distributor-- Housatonic, owned by Nicole Keiley and Mary Taylor. We are looking forward to this tasting because we have so enjoyed both of these well-priced, entry-level wines-- Grillo Iwhite) […]
Kivelstadt Cellars has an estate vineyard in Bennett Valley (Sonoma County) and buys grapes for its "experimental side project," KC Cellars. The KC Labs Syrah has been very popular with our customer-friends. We'll do at least one KC Labs wine with Jordan and probably an estate wine as well.
We are tasting a bit later than usual since we are heading west rather than east. Kivelstadt's winemaker, Sam Baron, is a young whippersnapper, full of ideas and the energy to experiment. We'll talk about some of those as we enjoy a lovely Petillant Naturel of Pinot Noir and the Father's Watch, Rhone Blend recommended […]
We will be tasting the Tre Bicchieri, Falanghina, Svelato and the also delicious Manent, Aglianico. We'll talk about the local legends of surrounding hills as enchanted, which may explain the secret of how their Falanghina is so consistently superior to any others we've had. Join us for an interesting, informative conversation while enjoying some lovely […]
Ines Giovanett Weingut Castelfeder Südtirol/Alto Adige We kick off the new tasting season with a trip to one of Italy's smallest wine regions, the Südtirol in northern Italy. Long known as a white wine region (still 64% of its total production), reds are now coming on strong. We'll taste both and talk about the region's […]
Many of you have visited Provence. We invite you to return there virtually, to the Vaucluse département where the Cotes du Rhone wine appellation is located. We'll meet with Vincent Tramier, owner of Domaine Coste Chaude, an organically-farmed winery where vines have been grown since at least the 16th century.
Mel Goldman Keuka Lake Vineyards Hammondsport, NY The Windham Wines tasting team spent a lovely afternoon with Mel in August during which we discovered the delight of the Keuka Lake Vineyards wines. We wanted to bring them all in, from the Vignoles Petillant Natural to the Blaufrankisch. Each certainly deserves a spot. With limited space, […]
